For the fist part of a recent trip in Europe I rented a Saab, I was very pleased with this car, .then we continued our journey via Euro Rail for a while, crossed the Chunnel and visited London for several...

Expensive, but worth it.
If your looking to spend a lot of money for a new car, the 2001 BMW 540i Sedan is a great choice. The car has so much to offer in Performance, Safety,Luxury, and Technology.
PERFORMANCE always is important because if the car doesn't run well, then why get it. 540i Sedan has everything you...

A real sport sedan
When I purchased my 2001 BMW 540i with the sport package that included the 6-speed manual transmission, I was sure that it was the best handling sedan I had ever driven. The car absolutely rockets to 60 mph and has plenty of power at highway speeds, thanks to gobs of low-end torque and 282 hp... Read full review »
The ultimate driving machine, yes. The ultimate car? No.
Having owned a '97 540i, and experienced all the numerous annoying troubles that a BMW with 81,000 miles will have, we considered a new model as an alternative. Yes, we would have to trade the 282hp V-8 engine of the 540i for the 225hp inline 6 of a 530i to even begin to afford it, but they're not... Read full review »
My Daily Inspiration
I bought my first BMW (a 1987 735) in 2000. I will never buy anything else.
I kissed the 735 goodbye last year (got a little bit teary!) and bought a 2001 530i.
I freaking LOVE this car. Love love love it. It is very much an inspiration in my day. While I can't drive the bejesus...

M5... MMMM..... Fastest 4 door on this planet.
BMW M series. Just the special M is spine tingling. The M3 is pretty mean. The old M5 and M6 were some nice machiens. But with the current M5, all other luxury-perfomance sedans are blown into the water. Nothing paralles the performance of this sedan, in luxury form.
Interior
As with...

Too Bad I Didn't Buy One When New
I just recently got the privilege to drive a 2001 BMW 525i sedan, with Sport/Premium Package as a company car for a project. Going into the whole experience, I really thought that a 2.5 liter engine in a luxo heavy car as a 5 series was a joke. I had a 2.8 liter 5 series about a decade ago, and it... Read full review »
AMAZING, AWESOME, AND ABSOLUTELY THRILLING
Just purchased this beast. Absolutely awesome. This is the best money I have ever spent on a vehicle, and I have bought lots of vehicles (just ask my wife). My first trip on the interstate had my passenger practically speechless, and I was smiling and so excited that my contact lens actually popped... Read full review »
540i, the Ultimate Family Trip
If you want to read a review that explains nitty-gritty engine details, don't read this. We purchased a 540 sport model this year and believe it is the ideal family car. We had a '94 540i but the latest model is much better.
Driving in Tokyo can be extremely scary, but our 540 can fly in...

Is it worth it?
This is a great car if you value performance first and luxury second. If your priorities are different, the Audi or MB is a better choice.
Yes, other cars may accelerate as fast or faster but only on a boring straight line. They don't stop as fast, either.
Get the manual...
