Adler Royal HT500X Shredder, Not Bad For A Bargain Shredder

Pros Do you really need to shred more than five pages at a time?
Cons Top heavy, can be knocked over easily. No more than five pages at a time.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Perfect for home use, five pages at a time, easy to empty, plus it looks good, nice silver color. For a small investment, it serves its purpose.
OK. Once I realized that a five sheet paper shredder means exactly that, five sheets and no more, the Adler Royal HT500X paper shredder has been performing like a champion. I keep this model right near my desk, where it is simple to drop a few sheets of personal and private documents at a time, destroying them enough that it is impossible to put together. I suppose the FBI or CIA could, but if I am in that kind of position, I would be spending a lot more than $25 for a personal paper shredder.

Why the Royal HT500X shredder? It was on sale at a big box store, marked down from $35 to $25. We were shopping for one, strictly for personal use and thought this was a reasonable choice. For the home, if you have medium to low quantity of shredding needed, I do not think you need much more than this.

With the Adler Royal HT500X I can shred my financial statements, medical records, and all of your other personal documents including all dangerous credit card junk mail. It can shred the envelope intact, such as the ones with "convenience checks", and "you are approved!" Why the Royal?

1.It shreds up to five sheets at a pass and disposes the confetti into the built-in metal wastebasket. Five means five, not six or seven, not five and a half. With five, it works great.

2. The metal wastebasket is solid built, sturdy, made of metal mesh. However, it is a little clumsy to empty. I have to set the top shred unit on the floor to empty it, and there are always little pieces falling off. But again, for $25 I do not expect it to vacuum up after itself.

3. The Royal features automatic start and stop. I leave it on and when I pop a piece of paper in it, boom, it starts to shred and shuts off when done. A very nice option. The shredder sits firmly on the top of the wastebasket, a little top heavy.

4. It is a little loud, but not too bad for every day use. Also, it cuts into shreds, rather than confetti or zig-zag. It also chops up the occasional staple and credit card without a problem.

5. Ideal for home use, I would not get it for an office. Size is fine, a cozy 14-1/2"x12-1/2"x7-1/2" fits nearly anywhere. It has a 9 inch entry, perfect for legal or letterhead. Any larger, you can fold in half and motor through it.

6. A reverse drive is excellent when you try to stick six pieces of paper and overload it. Also, good to run reverse to clear any confetti and forward before emptying the wastebasket.

7. Power cord is heavy duty, not a worry. Four gallon capacity for the waste basket, and has a one year warranty for parts and labor.

The Adler Royal HT500X paper shredder is easy to use and perfect for home use. I recommend it!
