After many years of medical transcription experience using many different transcribers, I purchased the Panasonic RR830 to use for transcribing at home. After hunting all over town I finally located a few stores that even carried transcribing machines, finally settling on Office Depot for my purchase. The machine was $200, and well worth it.
The Panasonic RR830 is a standard size tape transcriber. The headphones that are included with the machine are of the highest quality, made sturdy to last, with great, clear sound, good head fit, even after three years, including a sturdy, extra long cord. The ear pads have worn well and are in good shape still.
This transcriber is equipped with variable speech control allowing maximal tuning in to what the speaker is saying, either slowing down or speeding up.
The foot pedal is easy to use and convenient. The forward and reverse operations are simple and there is easy access to both. And you can control how far back you want the reverse to take you with each tap of your foot by adjusting the control on the machine to suit your needs.
The volume control is excellent, and has easy access to play the tape out loud, which is necessary for some dictation, or to get a 'second opinion'.
I have also used this transcriber to do transcription of insurance company interviews for workmans compensation, with excellent results as well.
I would recommend this transcriber to any professional transcriptionist, or any beginner!
