depth of color is dark and thick, tending toward black. aromas show intense blackberry fruit, pepper and spice. palate is a big ripe sweet style with rich intensity with lingering flavors of cedar and tobacco drawn in part from oak. Whilst a powerful style, shows a degree of softness and balance. Key element is overwhelming fruity nature and soft but strong oak tannin. An exceptional year. Well below average yields, but wines big structured and deeply colored and flavored. Australian Wine Companion rating: 90.

2008 Walter Hansel Pinot Noir Cahill Lane

This wine is from United States, California region, Napa County sub-region and Oakville appellation. Aromas of huckleberry, dark cocoa and chocolate are complemented by a touch ofvanillan in the nose. Upon entry, this Cabernet is soft and lush, with a dense midpalate. Wild berry aromas predominate, blended with hints of coconut, cinnamon, tobacco and leather. Full-bodied and well structured to palate, with silky and enveloping tannins. Long after-taste acquired from its lengthy time in bottle, where its elegant bouquet gains in intensity. This Viña Ardanza continues to evolve without losing its traditional qualities.
