Very intense, dry and round in mouth it combines complexity of age with freshness of an expertly managed Solera, epitomising style of Sandeman Sherries. Sandeman Royal Esmeralda Fine Dry Amontillado has an attractive amber colour with golden highlights, opening onto a complex nose, where pungent notes of original fino have been gradually softened over years, creating a deeper, more fragrant wine. Medium gold in appearance, with a fine, fresh bouquet of orange peel and flowers. On palate it has an excellent balance, sweetness being offset by fine acidity. There are flavors of tropical fruit and oranges with a great length. This is a perfect example of a five puttonyos wine. Tokaji Aszú wines are wonderful on their own as an aperitif or with cigars and petits fours. The first Tokaji Aszu wine was created in the 1600s and Tokaji became the first European region to have its vineyards classified, 1st Growth, 2nd Growth, 3rd Growth, a system still used in Hungary today. World Wars and Communism halted quality winemaking. In 1989, inspired by wine author, Hugh Johnson, RTWC's founders started the winery in an effort to preserve what they considered a dying art.
