Dark violet, reflections are black and bright. robe is thick and generous. flavors are of juicy, slightly sun-baked black fruit. aromas range from mocha to toast, characteristic of these rich and powerful wines. mouth is opulent with smooth, firm, tannins, still young and full of promise. A persistent and long finish, sign of a beautiful vintage. aromatic range will unveil itself within next five years, but we will have to wait a decade to find out fully. Let us be patient. International Wine Cellar rating: 94. wine's color is reminiscent of black cherries, a sign of perfect youth. Its aromas are an elegant association of fresh and jammy black fruit; careful aging has added a fine, charming woodiness and additional grilled notes of toasted bread. On palate attack is fresh, and young, tight tannins are well- incorporated into wine's body. tannins will develop with time, but for now they are nicely balanced with wine's fresh, nervous acidity. mid-palate is opulent, with a texture that reflects wine's spirited style. finish is still dominated by young tannins, and is very long, flavorful and refined. Although this wine will offer great pleasure in several years, it has an incredible potential to age well into future.

This is typically one of the finest offerings of Fronsac, but I am not convinced the 2009 will eclipse their magnificent 2005, although it will certainly give the latter wine a run for its money. This wine is from France, Bordeaux region, Haut Medoc sub-region and Saint Julien appellation. The Bartons respect tradition but do not ignore progress. A modern de-stemmer and the latest wine press have been introduced for the vinification. Generally fermentation lasts about five days during which the juice is pumped over twice daily. The wine is left with the skins for two weeks approximately but this depends on the quality of the crop. The wine is then drawn off and the skins are pressed, thereby obtaining the ” vin de presse ” which is an important component in the final blend..

Impenetrably dark magenta. A beautiful and precise nose of graham cracker, mixed high-tone florals, ripe fruit, and hints of honey. Palate is silky smooth, incredibly dense and plush, loaded with ripe fruit and butressed by fine grained tannin and a very long finish. Simply pleasurable to sit on palate. Overall this wine is more youthfully restrained than Cabernet with laser focus and purity. I think this wine will really blossom over next five years and reward as much cellaring as its owner is willing to allow. Blend: 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Merlot
